How to make money on photos on the Internet
The camera for many people is a familiar tool in everyday life. For some, photography is just a hobby, while others make good money on it. Professional and semi-professional cameras are now available to most people. How do photographers make money? Most often, through photo shoots and photography of various events, or by opening your own photo studio. Another great way that can generate income is by selling photos online. Moreover, for such a mini-business it is not at all necessary to be a professional photographer. And the places where you can sell your photo creations are called photo stocks or photo banks.
We must say right away that you are unlikely to earn a lot of money selling photos on the Internet, especially if you are doing this unprofessionally. But with good photography skills and a large number of photographs on different topics, you can get quite a good additional income to your main income.
The technique that you will use is a camera, even a regular digital one with a number of pixels of 5 or more is quite suitable. But if you have a professional or semi-professional camera, then your chances of success, of course, increase.
You don’t have to graduate from photography school or take photography courses. But if you have not done photography before, we advise you to sit for a couple of weeks on the forums and blogs of experienced photographers and learn their craft. At the very least, you should master the skills of how to correctly build a composition in photography, choose good angles and do minimal processing of photos in graphic editors.
In order to start your photography business, you need to take at least 100-200 photos. And if you like this business, and you take 1000 successful shots, then in general it will be great.
What photos should I take?
To get started, take photos on different topics – city, nature, animals, people, professions, beauty. The more there are, the more chances that they will be downloaded and you will receive your payment. However, it often happens that the same successful photo is downloaded a large number of times, and only this one photo brings a good profit.
To successfully sell a photo on stock, it must carry a certain semantic load. The meaning of photography can be negative (themes of sadness, sadness, rage, etc.), however, it should still evoke a positive feeling in relation to its quality. The photo must be bright, clearly in focus. Size – maximum possible, format – JPG. Most stock photos are pre-processed in graphic editors to make them look more presentable. In addition, competent processing can hide some quality flaws. However, don’t overdo it with special effects. An overloaded photo will no longer be so attractive, and moderators may not allow it to be sold on stock. If you are photographing different objects, then keep track of what background they are on. Sometimes it takes longer to find the right background than the subject itself. It is important that the background is “in line” and complements the subject.
Where to sell?
There are a lot of photo stocks and photobanks. And they all have their own requirements for the uploaded photos. Some of the more advanced and popular ones even have special exams that photo stockers must pass in order to be able to upload and sell their images. There are no such tests for participants on less popular photobanks, so it is better for beginners to start with them. For example, the Fotolia.com photo stock is designed for beginners and inexperienced stocking photographers. Requirements for participants and the photographs themselves are minimal here. The only condition is that the photographer must confirm his copyright for the photos he uploads. However, the cost of one download of photos from Fotolia.com is also low – about $ 0.14-5.
The cooler photo banks put forward their requirements, sometimes quite stringent ones. For example, the popular photo stock Istockphoto.com will require three photos from you, which will become your exam. They will be carefully checked for various parameters, in particular, quality, professional approach, originality, choice of subject matter. After that, the administration decides whether to admit you to the stock as a seller or not. It is not easy to take this exam the first time, however, you can retake it an unlimited number of times at intervals of one month.
Sutterstock.com is one of the most popular and demanded photo stocks. Because of such high positions, of course, it is not easy for a photo seller to get to this resource. Again, you have to pass a certain exam, having already sent 10 photos. Therefore, choose only your best shots.
